How to make a Bat Wing Scrunchie

Supplies

  • 3" x 12" piece of Black Felt (or smaller)- I like to use acrylic felt sold by the bolt. The thicker the better.
  • Black Scrunchie or Hair Tie - you can use a scrunchie you have on hand or make your own using my Tie Scrunchie Tutorial
  • Sharp scissors
  • Bat Wing Template

Directions

1. Download and print the Free Bat Tie Template.

2. Choose a size and cut it out.

3. Fold the felt piece in half and place the straight edge of the template on the fold.

4. Cut through both layers of felt around the template. You can hold the template place with your fingers as you cut or you can put masking tape circles on the back of the template to help the template stay in place. This takes a little bit of paying attention to detail but it is not too difficult. The sharper your scissors are the better.

5. Thread one bat wing through the scrunchie or hair tie and carefully tie the bat around it. You may have to fold the wing points to the center as you push the second wing through to make the knot. The felt will stretch and disfigure your shape if you pull too hard.

6. Gently pull on the wings to make them even with out tying the knot too tight.

7. Tie your bat scrunchie to the end of a braid or around a messy bun.

Happy Halloween!!
