Cafe Curtains with Grommets

My bathroom curtains are up. Yahoo!!  I think you would call them Cafe curtains, but whatever they are called, I really like them.

If I made them again I might make them just a little wider, but I think they are fine.  They are lined with  muslin and the grommets are the snap together plastic kind by Dritz.  They were so easy to assemble.

To figure out the lining I used the Curtains with a lining tutorial from Sew Mama Sew.  Though I had to make some adjustments because the measurements didn't quite work out.

Here are the details if you are curious, but also for my records.

The hardest thing was to figure out how wide to make the panel and how far apart to put the grommets.

The window is 51 in wide.

The finished panel turned out to be 31 inches tall and 69 inches wide.   If I made them again I would lengthen the width to 75 inches, 1 1/2 times the window width.

For grommet placement on the ends, I centered it 2 inches from the top and 3 inches from the end on each side.  I then divided the section in the center by 9 (because I used 10 grommets).  I ended up placing them 7 inches apart.

Having these up makes me want to change up a few things in the bathroom:
Replace the towel racks
Put up a black and white picture where that iron scroll is.
Replace the tile accent white a black one or paint it black. Has anyone ever painted tile before?

But before I can do that I have to get my kitchen backsplash done 🙂

Bye for now!!

  7. Sarah, They look beautiful! I am glad that you took the time to write down what you did and what you would do differently next time. It's such a smart thing to do and I am sure that it will come in handy down the road. I think they look great and I really do like the fabric.

  16. I love this! I was wondering if you wanted to change the grommets to a different color over time if you would be able to? I mean, can you pop off the existing ones and add new ones of a different color to it? Just curious…

    Thanks!

  20. to Anonymous… Yes you can change the grommits out later. They are plastic and snap together pretty easily. To pull them apart there is a little notch you can stick a small screwdriver into and twist it to pop it open. You could also spray paint them any color you needed. 🙂
