Happy Easter Embroidery Pattern

Are you in the mood for a little holiday stitching? Easter will be here before you know it! Sometimes it's fun to have a holiday project at your finger tips when you have a minute to stitch. I have a free Happy Easter embroidery pattern that you will want to check out.

It is very simple and a great project for a kid or a beginner at embroidery. It also comes with instructions on how to frame it with fabric to make a pretty Easter wall hanging.

Make a Happy Easter Wall Hanging

Tracing Instructions:

Pattern template dimensions are about 4 3/4’’ X 5 1/4 ‘’. You can easily enlarge it if needed.

  1. Print the stitch template on page 2 of the PDF and tape it to a sunny window.
  2. Cut a piece of Fabric about 8 X 10 inches, or large enough to fit easily into
    an embroidery hoop.
  3. Tape the fabric centered over the pat-
    tern on the window.
  4. Use a disappearing fabric pen or pencil to lightly trace the pattern.

Embroidery Instructions:

Use a sharp needle and 2 strands of embroidery floss to stitch along the drawn lines with a running stitch or an outline stitch. Use a French knot or
shorter stitches for the eyes and flower centers.

Embroidery Floss Colors:

Of course you can choose to use any color of embroidery floss you’d like. I picked colors to match the fabric surrounding my stitching.

Here are the DMC numbers of colors similar to my project.

  • 825 Periwinkle blue
  • 3821 Yellow
  • 3845 Turquoise
  • 612 Brown
  • 704 Leaf green
  • 3824 Pink
  • 3340 Rose

Finishing the Project for Display

Once you’ve finished your Happy Easter Embroidery Pattern display it! Here are some options…

  • Leave it in the hoop. Tuck the extra fabric inside the back of the
hoop and hang it on the wall
  • Turn it into a pillow. Add a fabric border by trimming your stitched fabric to a 6’’ x 7’’ rectangle and sew strips of coordinating fabric to each side (see instructions below). Cut a backing to match, sew the side seams and stuff it.
  • Frame it. Trim the embroidered fabric to about a 6’’ X 7’’ Rectangle and follow the instructions below to sew on fabric borders and add a frame.

To “Frame it” You’ll need:

  • 4 strips of coordinating fabric, cut to 3 1/2’’ x 10’’ each
  • 8’’ x 10’’ rectangle of batting
  • 8’’ x 10’’ rectangle of cereal cardboard (or cut to the exact size of the frame backing.)
  • Tape
  • 8’’ x 10’’ frame
  • Grosgrain ribbon, cut 2 - 15 inch lengths
  • Staple gun

Sew the Border Around the Bunny

1. Place one strip of fabric with the right side facing the Bunny piece along 1 long edge. Use a 3/8’’ seam allowance to sew the seam and stop sewing about 1/2’’ away from the short end of the Bunny piece. Press the strip open.

2. Sew a 2nd strip onto the top of the Bunny piece in the same fashion only this time, sew all the way across.

3. Sew a 3rd strip onto the long side. Press it open.

4. Fold the 1st strip out of the way. Stitch the 4th strip and press it open.

5. Fold the first strip over again and stitch the final end in place. Overlap the edges if the fabric as much as you need to in order to meet the original seam line. Press the seam open.

6. Layer the piece of batting on top of the cardboard. Center the picture over the batting. Fold the edges over and tape in place.

7. Flip it over and make sure it looks right.

8. Place it in the frame and secure the backing. (You can put the glass that came with the frame behind the cardboard so the backing fits snugly.) Staple the ribbon to the inside top of the frame and tie a bow.

And there you have it!! Cute and festive and fun to make! Let me know if you make one, I'd love to see it!
