New Year’s Day we flew to NYC for a little anniversary trip (27 years!) We spent 4 days exploring the city and happened to stay right next to the garment district! Of course I had to checkout Mood Fabrics

Bolts and Bolts of Fabric on 3 Floors!

Seeing Mood Fabrics on Project Runway alone did not do it justice! They have 3 floors packed full of fabric, trim, zippers and anything else you need to sew beuatiful clothes. I loved walking up and down the aisles reading the overhead signs and seeing all the different types of fabric.

It’s a great place to go if you are looking to learn about fabric types and figure out the difference between a charmeuse and a crepe de chine. I could have spent hours there just studying the fabrics.

The Trims Section

The trims section was amazing! It had me thinking of wedding dresses and broadway costumes! They also had a whole section devoted to wedding dress material.

Another thing I really appreciated about Mood Fabrics was how well organized it was. Keeping track of all those supplies has got to be a nightmare. And it was really clean compared to the other garment district shops we went into. They also had great customer service. They had a lot of staff walking around at the ready to help you out with any questions.

And here is the rainbow wall of brocades!

I wish I would have had a little more foresight and shopped for something specific. The enormity of the fabric choices had me a little paralyzed on the spot. I should have bought some fabric but I only came away with a Bobbin Saver bobbin tray which I’ve been wanting to try out.

The Garment District

There are a couple of fun sculptures in the Garment district that I thought you might like to see too. This first one is a huge needle thread going through a big yellow button.

And this one is a statue of a Garment Worker at a sewing machine

The whole experience was fascinating. Have you visited Mood Fabric? What was your takeaway?

  1. Good Morning! I haven’t been to the NYC Mood fabric but I’ve been to Miami’s Mood fabric. A couple of years back I went and it sounds like its a smaller verison of NYC’s Mood. Nice area of Miami too, and not hard to find and get to. Have you driven down there yet??
