Happy February!! We decided we needed a little extra fun in our house so my 8 y.o. and I are doing a Valentine's Day Countdown. I made a list of simple activities we could do everyday and sewed up Valentine Envelope to deliver the Valentine's day countdown activity in. I have a free printable and pattern sheet for you today in case you want to make one too!
Valentine's Day Countdown Activity Cards & Felt Envelope Pattern Tutorial
I'll place a new activity in the Felt Valentine Envelope each night. I left it on the table this morning to surprise him this morning but I may put it outside in the real mailbox tomorrow for a little extra fun. The Felt Envelope I made is similar to one I made years ago for my preschooler.
I made a Valentine Envelope Pattern Sheet and a set of Printable Valentine's Day Countdown Activity Cards in case you want to join us too! You don't have to make the envelope, just print the cards and have fun counting down.
Activity Sheet Printing & Cutting tips
Print your Valentine's Day Countdown Activity Sheets on Cardstock. The last page has blank hearts that you can write in your own ideas. These are simple doable activities that needed very little prep on your part.
Use an old Rotary Cutter to Cut Paper
Did you know you can use your old rotary cutter blade to cut cardstock? I like to keep an extra rotary cutter to use on paper. I wrote the word PAPER on the handle so I don't mix it up with my sharp fabric blades. This tool makes such a nice clean cut and it saves so much time.
Make A Felt Valentine Envelope
This cute little felt envelope is the perfect way to deliver your daily Valentine's Day countdown activity card/ Even though I made this with my sewing machine, you could make this envelope by just adding glue where the stitching is. Make it smaller or bigger as needed. Add a flap if you want to make it more complicated.
You'll need...
- A Sheet of felt for the envelope
- Scraps of felt for the stamps.
- Felt Envelope Template printed
- pinking shears, optional
Instructions
1. Print out the Felt Envelope Template and use it to cut your felt rectangle to match the size of the paper.
2. Mark the stitch lines for the address. You can skip this part or use embroidery floss to stitch your address too.
3. Stitch the address lines. I used a heart stitch pattern I found on my Bernina B380 machine (#79). Your machine might have this too!
4. Cut out the Stamp rectangle from the template. Use it to cut a Stamp from white felt. I used pinking shears to get that zig zag edge.
5.Place the stamp in the top right corner leaving room for the side seam. Stitch or glue it on.
6. Cut out the heart from inside the stamp template. Use it to cut a Heart from pink felt.
7. Place the heart inside the stamp. Stitch or glue it in place.
8. Pin the side seams and stitch them together.
Now you have a cute envelope to stuff your Valentine's Day Countdown activity cards into!
