sew a crayon roll

We went to a friends birthday party yesterday so I sewed up my standby birthday gift.  A Crayon Roll! I was glad to get to use this cute birds and trees Heidi Grace print I got a while ago. These are cute and easy to sew!

Easy Handmade Birthday Gift Idea: Sew a Crayon Roll

For this crayon roll I used the Skip to My Lou  crayon roll up tutorial .  I'm linking the color combination on this one. Choosing high contrast colors makes makes these cuter I think.

Easy to sew crayon roll

Instead of the ribbon tie I usually add an elastic loop (elastic cording cut to 4 inches) and sew on a button. You can also use fold over elastic and skip the button. I didn't have any corded elastic on hand for the loop so I braided some 1/8 inch flat elastic which worked great in a pinch.

Add a Coloring book to complete the gift

Pair this little roll-up with some coloring books and it makes a fun gift!!  My favorite thing is they only take a little over 30 minutes to make once you get the hang of them.  If you have a little one who loves coloring it's a must try!! Plus I don't know a kid who doesn't get excited for fresh crayons.

Make a Super Simple Tote bag to carry it in

You can even go the extra mile and make a matching tote bag to carry the crayons in coloring book. Check out my Super Simple Tote bag tutorial for a quick and easy tote bag to make.

  1. This is so cute, and I love the look of the braided elastic. I can't believe you can whip them up so quickly though, it would take me hours.
